In 2007, the Justice Department convicted the largest Islamic charity in North America, The Holy Land Foundation, and its leadership of channeling more than twelve million dollars to known terrorists in the Middle East.
One of the documents entered into evidence outlined the plans the Muslim Brotherhood had for the United States. Innocently titled “An Explanatory Memorandum: On the General Strategic Goal for the Group,” it was written by a member of the Brotherhood’s board of directors, and approved by its Shura Council and Organizational Conference in 1987.
It is thus an official governing document of the Brotherhood, and it actually calls for the elimination of the United States Constitution and its replacement with an Islamic government operating under shariah law.
In August of 2004, an alert Maryland Transportation Authority Police officer observed a woman wearing traditional Islamic garb videotaping the support structures of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, and conducted a traffic stop.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Ismail Elbarasse and detained on an outstanding material witness warrant issued in a case related to the terrorist group Hamas . The FBI’s Washington Field Office raided Elbarasse’s residence in Annandale, Virginia, found a hidden sub-basement.
In it the FBI discovered the archives of the Muslim Brotherhood in North America.
The documents make clear the groups’ ultimate objectives are to implement Islamic law in America in furtherance of re-establishing the global caliphate.
The memorandum spells out the plan in a few sentences:
“The process of settlement is a ‘Civilization-Jihadist Process’ with all the word means. The Ikhwan must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and “sabotaging” its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God’s religion is made victorious over all other religions.”
It begins with a prayer asking for the blessings of Allah upon the supreme guide of the Brotherhood, called the “General Masul,” and the Shura Council.
It focuses on the “settlement” of North America by Islam, such that it first becomes part of the American homeland and then eventually an alternative to American civilization. A key part of that is the development of an “Islamic Center” very much on the model of the Islamic Center in Palestine that gave birth to Hamas – the terrorist organization being financed by the Holy Land Foundation.
Such a center would combine militant and social aspects: “the Islamic center would turn into a place for study, family, battalion, course, seminar, visit, sport, school, social club, women gathering, kindergarten for male and female youngsters, the office of the domestic political resolution, and the center for distributing our newspapers, magazines, books and our audio and visual tapes.”
This form of jihad – “civilization jihad” – is to be spread throughout America by a host of organizations that are named or, more often, framed as something to be established by the Brotherhood in the future.
These include political organizations and media organizations designed to control and drive the debate about the role of Islam. These are now well established with groups like the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) and many others.
They also included youth organizations to train the faithful and started the Muslim Student Association which now dominates and poisons debate on college campuses across the country.
There is, of course, to be a system of shariah courts to enforce Islamic law, as well as a system of Islamic lawyers trained to advance the ball in American civil and criminal courts.
And there are to be banks and charities, such as the Holy Land Foundation and the banks that it used, for the purpose of funding the jihad – or, as the document puts it, “supporting the establishment of the global Islamic State wherever it is.”
Many Brotherhood their leaders immigrated to Europe because the group was suppressed in Egypt following their attempt to overthrow the Nasser government. Foolishly, the CIA saw them as a partner in the Cold War against a godless Soviet Bloc.
“Allah is our objective; the Koran is our law; the Prophet is our leader; jihad is our way; and death for the sake of Allah is the highest of our aspirations.” (The Brotherhood's Motto)
One piece of evidence presented by Justice Department prosecutors to the court went uncontested by the defense. There's plenty more to back it up.
Not only does the Brotherhood inspire jihad and promote the imposition of Islamic law, it is involved in violent acts of terrorism.
A resolution prompted by Arab nations attempts to hide the majority of the site's history in order to defend one of Islam's least plausible claims.
