Slander, Blasphemy & Censorship

White House -Translator- Won’t Say “Islamist”

The French President's remarks are silenced by the Obama administration.

The Obama administration provided a translator to help French President Francois Hollande communicate his message to the American people.  All but two sentences of his message, that is:

The White House briefly pulled video of a press event on terrorism with Pres. Obama, and when it reappeared on the WhiteHouse.gov website and YouTube, the audio of Hollande’s translator goes silent, beginning with the words “Islamist terrorism,” then begins again at the end of his sentence.

Even the audio of Hollande saying the words “Islamist terrorism” in French have, apparently, been edited from the video.

Hot Air doubted this story was treating the President’s team fairly, but on review they admit that there isn’t any other obvious explanation.  “I owe the MRC an apology for doubting them,” writes author ‘Allahpundit.’  “I read this piece assuming all the way through that they had misconstrued what must be a perfectly innocent glitch by the White House in translating Hollande. Nope.”

Getting the administration to even acknowledge that there is some connection between Islam and terrorism has been quite difficult.  Last week Attorney General Loretta Lynch used the word “jihadist” to describe the inspirational effect the Islamic State (ISIS) has had on home-grown terrorism in America and Europe.  This was almost shocking coming from an Obama administration figure, as they have avoided linking Islam with terrorism even with adjectives like “radical” or “extremist.”  There is no Buddhist jihad, however.  There is no Communist jihad.  If a kind of terrorism is “jihadist,” then that kind is essentially Islamic.

But of course, for the President, even the “Islamic State” is not Islamic.

Hot Air points out that “the worst part” is that Hollande went to some trouble to use a phrasing that ought to have been less objectionable to President Obama.

Hollande didn’t say “Islamic terrorism,” which is the supposedly objectionable term. He said “Islamist terrorism.” … “Islamic” describes all things Muslim; “Islamist” describes a supremacist view in which Islam is the highest authority of the state….

Hollande chose his words carefully here according to the White House transcript so as not to conflate the average Muslim with the jihadis he’s discussing — and the White House still censored him.

Perhaps the Attorney General’s lapse has provoked a renewed enforcement of discipline by the President on these matters. It seems that the White House has doubled down on its insistence that the truth shall not be spoken in front of the American people.

In sharia, the word translated as “slander” is the Arabic word ghiba. It means to say anything about someone that they do not like, even though it is true.
