United States: ISIS is Guilty of Genocide Against Christians

No promises to stop them.

BY CounterJihad · @CounterjihadUS | March 18, 2016

Following a nonbinding House of Representatives resolution in the U.S. Congress, American Secretary of State John F. Kerry formally designated the Islamic State (ISIS) as practitioners of genocide.  The targets of their genocide were Christians, Yazidis, and Shi’ite Muslims, he said.  He added that they were also guilty of crimes against humanity directed at both Sunnis and Kurds within the nations of Syria and Iraq.

The declaration may mark an important diplomatic step, but it does not come with any guarantee that the United States will take adequate action to put a stop to the genocide.  Kerry went to great lengths to explain that no one should take his statement to imply that genocide had been proven, or that any action was forthcoming as a result of it.

“I want to be clear,” Mr. Kerry told a State Department briefing Thursday. “I am neither judge, nor prosecutor, nor jury with respect to the allegations of genocide, crimes against humanity and ethnic cleansing by specific persons.”

“Ultimately,” the secretary of state said, “the full facts must be brought to light by an independent investigation and through formal legal determination made by a competent court or tribunal.”

Kerry’s inaction is unsurprising given the administration’s preference for deferring to anyone besides America.  However, it does fly in the face of the academic work of a major administration diplomatic figure, American Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power.  She wrote a book entitled A Problem from Hell, an intense criticism of earlier administrations’ refusal to act to stop genocide.  She was appointed to a high position within the State Department in part on the strength of that argument and President Obama’s supposed agreement with it.

She has fallen under criticism herself for participating in an administration that has proceeded to violate its own red lines against genocidal attacks on civilians.  Her refusal to live up to her stated principles is seen as damning, although in fact it is a quality that her boss John Kerry appears to cultivate in himself.

Indeed, it is surprising that Kerry agreed to take even this symbolic step to recognize genocide by Muslims against Christians and other minorities.  The unanimous House vote was backed by a compelling report compiled by the Knights of Columbus and In Defense of Christians.  This report included “witness statements, lists of crimes against Christians, the names of Christians who have been murdered, the names of the churches that have been attacked, medical reports including the growing threat of cholera, and price lists for Christian and Yezidi sex slaves.”  The sale of slaves is justified by ISIS by reference to sharia law’s treatment of captive women in war.

Bowing to the unavoidable truth, Kerry conceded that genocide is undeniable.  Now the question:  will the administration do anything to stop it?
